In an era where mobility is more than just a buzzword, the FIA forum in Tokyo brought together brilliant minds to define the priorities of the Asia-Pacific region. Between bold strategies and technological innovations, these leaders have taken the road towards a safer and more sustainable future.
A gathering of significance
The forum attracted iconic figures such as Willem Groenewald, the FIA Secretary General for Mobility and Sustainability, as well as Carmelo Sanz de Barros, the President of the FIA Senate. Alongside them, Masayoshi Sakaguchi, President of JAF, and Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria, President of Region II, shared their visions at this roundtable. Imagine a mix of automotive wisdom and creative energy, much like a Formula 1 race where every driver wants to take the lead of the pack.
Strategic priorities
During workshops led by business consultant Chris Nightingale, regional leaders identified four key priorities for the roadmap of Region II over the next four years. It’s a bit like planning an epic road trip: you need to choose the best stops!
- Tourism: The focus will be on establishing reciprocity agreements and developing cross-border business activities to enhance the benefits offered to members.
- OEM Program: Expand the program’s reach to include additional Clubs while exploring new business opportunities.
- International Driving Permits (IDPs): Work together on marketing initiatives while combating fraudulent companies selling counterfeit permits.
- Road Safety: Leverage the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life program while continuing advocacy efforts to improve safety standards for mobility users across the region.
A proactive management of priorities
To implement these ambitions, FIA Region II will structure leadership groups. Think of a team of engineers in a garage repairing a race car: each member has a crucial role in moving the project forward. They will also measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress over the years.
Innovation and collaboration
Alongside this strategic planning, leaders from the AA Philippines (AAP) such as Pol David Infante, Ryan Monge, and Camille Fallorina presented a new „Learning Management System“ portal. This tool will allow Clubs in Region II to access resources to achieve the identified priorities. Imagine a digital toolbox filled with valuable information – that’s exactly what this system brings. Artificial intelligence will be at the heart of this platform, facilitating content creation, translation, and even personalized learning modules. It’s like having a high-tech co-pilot guiding you through every turn!
Commitments for the future
Augustus ‘Joe’ Ferreria stated: “I am determined to advance the region. With the AAP team, we will focus our efforts on improving communication, expanding membership, and collaborating with the FIA to identify commercially sustainable programs for our Clubs.” It’s the kind of commitment that makes you want to start an engine and move into the unknown.
Quick visit to Tokyo
The forum concluded with a visit to the Tokyo Traffic Control Center and the JAF emergency roadside assistance branch. An experience that undoubtedly enriched the knowledge gained during discussions. It’s a bit like finishing a good meal with a delicious dessert: it leaves a memorable taste and inspires a return.
